More W-P Comments; June 2012

From this, it sounds like shutting off all the automatic stuff MS wants to happen to "Improve My Compute Experience" is going to be worse than ever. Hopefully it won't be up to the Windows Vista Experience. Win7 is ok, once it trained me NOT to move the cursor to those infernal automatic open/shut/overlay/replace the things I actually wanted to use. Please tell me I can eviscerate Win8 so it's useable!
Linux beckons as always. It runs flawlessly on my ancient netbook. Only drawback is a 7 inch screen is a bit small for graphics/video!
"...minimize the number of strikes out of fears of radicalizing local militants and driving them into al-Qaeda’s ranks." Well, of course! Nothing like death falling out of the skies to make people stop fighting. Or, perhaps, start fighting. Witness 9/11. There seems to be an extremely primal response to such an action. Causes excessie rage and desire for retaliation. Thus, the american attempt to prop up a puppet regime in Yemen ends up destabilizing what government exists. Sound familiar?
The US has almost certainly the most abysmal record in selecting puppets of any quasi (or not so quasi) imperial state ever!
Even Donnie Rumsfeld felt it necessary to ask if perhaps we weren't creating enemies faster than we were killing them.
Answer: Yep. We are.
Yeah. "Has Become" is not quite the thing. It's always been an attractive nuisance, gathering the more paranoid class of soldiers.
It's been standard procedure from LBJ on, to kill lots of people wherever the "arm of america can reach" to prove the president is not a "pitiful paper tiger". Look tuff overseas to win votes domestically. I think it's called Wag The Dog. Works for Dems, Reps, all the mighty leaders of the "free world"
Hmmm. Yes, it appears the fears of "Massive Voter Fraud" are well founded after all. All those illegal foreigners voting for Rep. McCotters reelection. Time to scrub the voter rolls!
Personally, I find it hard to believe the statements of ANYONE who wants so much to be president of the US. Why does Gov. Romney think he is a good fit for this job? For that matter, why would anyone think he(she) is? With a population exceeding 300 million, you'da thunk we could find better candidates for government positions.
My solution: open the process to the entire world! Got to admit, sadly, I don't really see a whole lot of talent anywhere.
Perhaps we could have a presidential contest between Angela. Merkel and Vladimir Putin?
At least then we could make fun of their accents!
Looks like Germany will have to buy into the market for government bonds for the failing countries of the EU. I think that this probably doesn't require anything more than a simple bank transaction - albeit from the German central bank to the staggering banks in G - I - S etc....
They won't do it, of course. It would, as the plutocrats of the US say, "reward bad behavior".
How is it "religious freedom" if the RC hierarchy - a bunch of allegedly chaste old men - dictates womens moral decisions?
And just how did it become such a litmus test that abortion, and NO OTHER consideration, determines a persons moral standing?
Kill all the people you want (preferably of the Muslim faith), and become a saint. Abort a fetus (even a non-viable one), and become a sinner.
I guess if we ALL stand our ground, then it's pretty much just like the OK corral. Though, claiming the right of self-defense when you shoot your neighbor for noise pollution seems a bit of a reach.
Not sure where the sanity went to in this case. But then, Houston was never noted as a bastion of good mental health.
Oh Dear! If you watch carefully, you can see that G W Bush never gave a fig about privatizing social security. The entire concept was too complex for his cut-taxes and attack-Iraq mentality. It was just a bit of red meat to toss to his most extreme followers. Meanwhile (paying NO ATTENTION to the man behind the curtain), he shovelled money to his miltary-industrial friends, and lots more money to his big-pharma friends. All in the name of helping his fellow Americans be more secure and healthier. He actually did proceed as if he had a mandate, and the accommodationist segment of the democratic party gave him lots of aid and comfort.
How does ADDING pollution control systems (designed, manufactured, installed, maintained by workers) cost jobs? Or is Gov. Romney concerned that the decrease in sick people will cost jobs in the nursing and hospice care industries?
And why is he interested in providing jobs for (take your choice: 130,000 jobs according to him, or 13,000 jobs according to XL) for a bunch of Canadian immigrants to build a leaky pipeline across the breadbasket of America? So that 3000 barrels of oil now flowing into a river in Alberta Canada could have been flowing into the Missouri River instead?
"a woman who dares to believe that she’s equal to a man" How DARE she! The entire philosphical basis of the RC church (if such a hierarchy can be said to have a philosophical unerpinning) is that there is but one god, and HE is a rageoholic controlling prussian paterfamilias. If I may mix a few linguistic traditions.
The operative part is, of course, hierarchy. All must submit to the orders sent down from Papa.
And it certainly seems to work. Witness the raptural attendance on the representative of God on Earth.
I'm still puzzled as to how this works to fulfill some deepseated spiritual need, but observationally, it seems to do so.
